Colder than a Witch’s Tit!

Where did that phrase even originate from? Like who decided that a witches bosom  was in fact cold and that the weather could be colder than that? That had to be an interesting day indeed for that individual. LOL Today though is freaking cold. Beautiful but cold. There is probably close to 3 1/2 – 4 inches of snow on the ground outside our camper. The boys were so excited when I showed them. In fact the other day after breakfast we took a jeep ride through the snow and down to the lake so the boys could see the lake frozen and snow-covered. Their excitement at such simple activities is infectious and makes me enjoy every moment that much more even though I have seen snow more times than I could count, having lived in Michigan for over a decade as a child. It was lovely and I have so many fond memories. I can only hope that the boys memories will include all good things when it comes to the camper, cold and snow. We try to make more good days than bad.

witch1This morning as we woke up the freaking temperature outside without windchill was -4. Negative freaking 4 was the actual temperature and according to my weather app, with the windchill it was in excess of -18 outside. Now the sun has come out and the outside is beckoning me. I know though if I open that door (which is frozen BTW) the cold air will assault my exposed skin like cheetahs to a kill. I’m not cool with that. So I have opened the little flap on the the only window not fully covered in the camper in order to enjoy the beautiful scenery and get some natural light. witch2Thankfully our camper is positioned in such a way that our big windows have sun exposure majority of the day during the winter months which helps because even if it is cold outside the sun helps to warm the camper. Anyone will tell you that vitamin D and the sun can turn a bad day good. The cave like atmosphere that I have created out of necessity for the winter gets so disheartening after a while. I love the sun, to be outdoors or at least have a window to see out of. It can make a small space feel larger and everyone knows how small this camper gets when its been days on end of walls closing in. Cabin fever is a real thing, so if you can discover little things to make you feel better it is worth it.

The boys are the ones who I feel like suffer the most during these short winter months, simply because they are active children and I encourage that. But when its cold enough that the weather channel warns of possible frostbite in 30 minutes of outside exposure that sends my mommy protectiveness into overdrive. So they stay inside more than go out.  I know that if the boys went out it wouldn’t be long and they would be dressed just like that little kid from “The Christmas Story.” witchThat is by far my favorite seasonal movie and now as a mom I think it is even funnier because of the realistic nature of the children to parent dynamic. Every time I dress the boys to go outside, it always makes me think of that part where the youngest child is getting dressed for school and when the mom is done getting the outdoor clothes on, the poor kid says “I can’t feel my arms, I can’t move my arms.” It tickles me and I await anxiously for the day the boys tell me that.  At least they are warm right?

The plan for today is quite simple actually. Hubs had to work today so the boys pretty much have free range for the toys they undoubtedly plan to spread all over the place. There will be Legos, Play Doh and plenty of Hot Wheels to go around. witch5 I don’t even think we will get out of our PJ’s because what is the point when we won’t leave the camper? IT just creates more laundry unnecessarily. The high today is supposed to be 12. As a high that’s ridiculous and we are under a winter weather advisory as well. So I will probably try to finish my book I started reading while they play. Quality time at its best, as long as everything gets put to rights when hubs gets home. I will put the radio on and we will enjoy the music instead of  watching the TV. I honestly get sick of the crap they have on TV all the time. It’s literal crap that we pay for which is astounding to me. But that is neither here nor there. And the boys at some point will have to do some kind of mommy school. Bubbers is practicing writing his numbers and Bubbie is starting to write his name. Big Boys. School was canceled due to the weather and bitter temperature but that doesn’t mean that can’t learn something. At least that is my opinion.

witch4I hope everyone here in the South that received the winter weather, enjoys it. I hope you all stay warm and cozy today. As always I will pray for you all.
