So since the weather has for the most part taken a turn for the cool, I have had to start in on research for keeping the boys and myself entertained. Being pregnant had kept me pretty well consumed but the boys are not able to go outside as much as they and I are used to, so we have to become creative. Crafts are a great way to spend the time and have the boys see the labor of their work. For myself, I have taken up crocheting or attempting to crochet the baby a blanket (it honestly will probably be a dish towel when I’m done.) I have also decided to make homemade christmas cards. It takes up time and also makes me feel productive. Two things I desperately need.
When I was in middle school, I had art and my end of semester project was to make christmas cards using any and all the supplies available for family members. I enjoyed it so much that I have wanted to do it again but never had the time. Jeez, that was almost 15 years ago. (shhhh…I’m old.) My goal is to make each one different or unique and even get the boys involved. So far I have collected about 20 of those paint sample cards from Wal-Mart in various colors, for a wide variety of decorations. (Pinterest, truly is amazing) I am also drawing on some of them and want to even make the envelopes they go in. It’s a great project and gets me into the christmas spirit and since this year has been full on ups and downs, I need all the spirit I can get.
Perler beads are the next project, I plan to do with the boys. We have three Dwarf Alberta Spruces outside the camper that I want the boys to decorate for christmas. Perler beads, if you didn’t know are the ones you use on a peg board and use an iron to melt into the designated shapes. When I was a kid I use to make them every year with a friends family for homemade christmas ornaments. At Wal-Mart, I can get a jug of 8400 beads for $10. The boys will love it and I will enjoy seeing their faces when they create something pretty. And I am a NERD so I am excited to start also.
It doesn’t really matter what we do, we just enjoy being together. The boys have the most fun when they can be in the same room and include us periodically in on their fun. Which I love, because I always want to be included.
